CANBERRA (Dow Jones)--Australia's lower house of parliament, the House of Representatives, Wednesday passed legislation enabling a price or tax to be imposed on carbon pollution, the central element of a package of clean energy legislation.
The House of Representatives voted 74 to 72 in favor of the legislation, which will now be debated in the upper house, or Senate, where the government's legislation is expected to have a smooth passage with the support of the minority Greens party.
