'I mentioned the potential similarity to 1998 and 2007 a couple of times earlier. There were graphs of these markets in the past two columns. But just to review: in 1998 the market rallied from Sept. 1 to Sept. 24 before falling sharply into a bottom on Oct. 8. In 2007, the market rallied from Aug. 16 to Oct. 11, before falling sharply into the Thanksgiving holiday (and, of course, that market eventually continued on to much lower lows). While this is, of course, a very small sample, it appears that the current rally could continue for another two or three weeks (roughly to Oct. 10), if it were to top at a similar time to 1998 or 2007. The current rally started on Aug. 8, although there were a lot of nervous days after that.'
