If you think of FMG, its definitely not independent, its run like a private business owned by Forrest. However, the market loves it atm, due to his ability to turn a dream come true.
MK's style of operation is similar, however the market is volatile, the MON investment was unsuccessful hence people discount the stock.
Histroically, the best performing stocks, i.e. Microsoft, Birkshire Hathaway, FMG are all controlled by an individual, not by independent boards.
Boards by nature are conservative, taking less risk and less likely to deliver extraordinary profits.
