The Homeground buildings at Calliope are not brick or concrete like Crown Towers. They are more like glorified ATCO huts. I have been there. The set up is nice enough from the outside.

They used to make rooms available for passing travellers but stopped that 4 or 5 years ago. The biggest problem is that the complex is 25 kilometres out of Gladstone. It is okay for mining projects to the west but, now that the gas plant construction is done, there are accommodation places in Gladstone that don't require half an hour of transport to get there.

The location is good if they did go for passing travellers. It is right on the Bruce Highway at a reasonable distance for one day of travel from Brisbane heading north. I guess the reason they stop allowing them is that there can be trouble mixing construction workers with recreational travellers in the one complex.
