Westpac led the banks towards insolvency in the eighties. They and the others, desperately needed cash and the fee hikes started.
The banks discovered that the punters were powerless provided they maintained a united front and these fees and charges are the backbone of their business now.
If, 20yrs on, Westpac finds themselves in the same bind why would they not try the same proven remedy?
