    good post dugscape
another reason....we have this vast land, of open spaces, and choices for lifestyle, the tree changers, the sea changers, the city centric people, and the escapers...

there are so many choices....but most simply grow up in the city, and want to stay close to their roots..
hence the huge prices paid...everyone wants to stay close to family and friends...all fighting over the one little plot

there are so many choices....but the majority do not evaluate their scope of choices....

we have moved on from the dark ages, when people worked in factories, that were located in the cities
now one can work from home, start their own business, and choose their lifestyle and their housing choice and price

there are vibrant communities away from the cities, where houses are half the price or less, transport is not a problem, and salaries are comparable to the city, self employed people have a dream lifestyle, and lifestyle choices for your leisure time is far more accessable....
the snow, the sea, bushwalking, etc etc etc are all within easy reach...
most would be surprised if they were brave enuff to venture out into the wider world...
cafe society, good eateries, bars and nightclubs are part of our society....they are not just available in the city,
    but part of the culture....
big regional areas have everything the cities have...but without the house price tag
    plus so much more...
so I have no sympathy for the whingers, who are living in the old world.....
the world has changed...one needs to adapt...or fall by the wayside...
