I would say far from dead. Every explorer has been smashed since May last year, and patience with these stocks is required. The explorers that are really dead are the ones short of cash. These guys could literally shut down operations and conserve cash, then wait for things to turn.
You have seen the interest that the Chinese have in the coal sector (LNC, FLX - although it fell through, there was interest, GLC - not from Chinese, but interest nonetheless).
as humblegenius points out, any explorer now needs time. But the exploration stocks I am keepin g hold of are the ones with plenty of cash and the ones with a proven economical resource.
