To give just one example headache, as soon as APA announced that the bid had failed, some shareholders could have negotiated and come to agreement on one deal or another with other parties as to what to do next, since they would have expected with certainty that their shareholding would be returned. And then APA changes its mind. The possible legal challenges are mind boggling.
