Interesting. However I don't see how their figures add up. Please point out if I am missing anything....

Your website states that:

"In the United States, about 16,000 children and women are affected by Rett Syndrome."

Given that there are approximately 166M females in the USA, if there were 16000 of them with Retts that would equate to 1:10375.

They also say

"2. Rett syndrome is estimated to affect one in every 10,000 to 15,000 live female births."

Meaning that the figure above already equates to pretty much their maximum prevalence quoted at 1:10000.

And then:

"Studies in Sweden yielded a prevalence rate of 1:10,000 cases per female births, which is the highest rates in the world today."

Suggesting rates in the USA are lower than that.

And finally,

"Rett individuals have an estimated 70% survival at age 35 years.

So if only 70% are surviving past 35 how does the quoted figure of 16000 make sense? Surely there would have to be far fewer than 1:10000 women across the entire USA population with Retts, so to me 16000 seems too high.

I suspect they have put together that info from various sources that don't actually add up when seen as a whole. Thanks though there was some interesting stuff in there I was not aware of.
