I'll give you an example of what I deem to be an appropriate buy and hold situation. On the CER thread I argued to buy and hold at 2.3c as the NTA was ~40c. briefly CER fell to 1.6c while an index fund sold out but in the end I got my 15 bagger when the CER share price went back to 36c or so plus a divvy along the way.

This was not a 'fond hope' situation as the NTA was plainly stated at all times. There was simply a grossly distorted market for a while. All it took to get the 15 bagger was a calm head when others ( including the red heart Buffett.... or so he argued at the time )lost theirs. patiently waiting a couple years saw normal valutations return for blue chip property.
