With 'real companies', currently balance sheets are possibly more important than earnings. try to find something with a low BS liability/asset ratio and definitely funds to support support current liabilities and the likelihood of earnings to support future debt repayments.
Many 'real companies' have balance sheet problems, regardless of what they say.
