I am not at all surprised. Following the next election they will have such a large majority they will probably get this in and still get a second term. The Libs probably wont object and are not in a position to criticise after their raid on super. They may well support it.

Most other countries have Death Duties so this won't be a hard sell as another "fairness measure". I expect it will initially target high value estates but come down over time. All those expensive homes in Sydney and Melbourne will net the government a fortune.

Whichever party is considering it, it is an excellent idea and one of the fairest taxes that could be imagined.

We are supposed to be a land of the fair go, not one of hereditary aristocracy.
