I have no problem with such a tax but it would need to come in as part of a broader set of reforms to restore fairness after decades of poor tax and savings policy. The whole idea of people accumulating quite massive property and superannuation wealth and then claiming welfare benefits is quite stupid IMO.
I'd also support some form of "tax-free threshold" so that average estates were not heavily taxed. As a retired non-pensioner, I can give substantial tax-free gifts that reduce my retained estate - that would need to be considered as I could effectively avoid inheritance taxes by giving everything away on my deathbed.
