debt consolidation

Hi...I just wondering what people in HotCopper land think is the best why to consolidate personal debts

I have a number of credit card debts (mistake I know, do it once, lesson learnt, never again)

I am in the process of applying for a personal loan and consolidating all the debts into one monthly repayment instead of multiple monthly repayments. The interest rate on this loan will be 13.8%

I have also looked into alternatives like Fox Symes but the Chapter 9 leaves me feeling uneasy as the repercussions could last years ie. bad credit rating, difficulty in obtaining a home loan in the future etc.

What is the best way out of this financial mess I have created for myself ? Bankloan, personal loan, debt agreement, heaven forbid bankruptcy ? Should I see a finanical advisor, go to a Bank, finance company ?
