Most investors & institutions would prefer to see the debt repaid as quickly as possible..
Only up to a certain manageable efficient point. Its all about the best use of capital.
Companies that have the proven ability to use other people's money efficiently are usually marked up by the market, not down. Debt free companies are usually regarded as having lazy management.
FMG can still pay the debt early if they decide to, but on the other hand, the time burden has been lifted a bit.
What would raise the share price is an increasing dividend, and their actions today may increase that chance.
