Why not legislate for a tax deduction for first home buyers, instead of a grant, for the interest on a home loan when they take out the loan with limits and conditions on the loan. eg: must be principal and interest, replay limit max 30 years, max loan limit on which to claim initially, loan administered by lenders...This would put pressure on purchase prices for housing and help when interest rates increase and encourage employment to get the benefit and as income rises to get a greater tax benefit. This is not about social housing for unemployables, homeless unemployed etc. It is to relieve pressure on genuine employed and is the same to all first home buyers whether high or low income earners.
