Dougie it is the same for any company. Imagine the number of people that come in contact with sensitive information. Insider trading is of course illegal but also it is very hard to prove.

For example, suppose I work in accounts at an insurer and I've just signed off a £50m EFT for bulk payment on number of cases! May not know the full picture but many can join dots with little snippets to increase probability.

A regular stock cruising along with its average 6% gain per year, the above kind of info is irrelevant. However, a company under stress and come across that kind of information, well it is gold.
