I partially agree, though I would say BVS hedged their bet - If GBT accepted the deal, then it would have been a win for BVS and as it took out a competitor. If GBT declines the deal (most likely outcome), BVS can hold on to the cash and look another acquisition target. I don't think there is anything devious on BVS part, timing of the capital raise was perfect for BVS, just before the whole market fell over.
