    QUOTE

But Riversdale is not the only thing on Rio's plate at the moment. It's believed a decision on a joint venture between Rio and Extract Resources over Namibian uranium assets is imminent. The parties have been in discussions for close to two years and are now believed to be in the process of securing key stakeholders such as the Namibian government. There are several complicating factors in the deal, including Extract's 40 per cent shareholder, the London-listed Kalahari Uranium, in which Rio also has a stake. Rio's Rossing mine itself -- which would be merged with Extract's Rossing South deposit -- is partially owned by sovereign funds from Iran, Namibia and South Africa, making already-complex three-way negotiations even more fraught.
