I like many others see the world as really in a terrible mess (unemployment in europe now 10% america 8%,both places up 2% in the last three months) and just hope we don't see politicians looking for a real global conflict to get the world going again.The US has been trying that angle for a few years.

If not its the 1970's all over again(vietnam and the unwinnable war) and they gave everyone credit cards to pull the western world out of that downturn and get it moving again which created massive inflation and 20% second mortgages.

The only other option is depression era austerity and mass dislocation of people,which is politically unacceptable,so hold your breath and wait for gold to appreciate as some soverign(foreign) money becomes worth less or worthless.

Imagine what would happen if the world presented America with all those global US dollars and said we want to BUY something of value or cash them in for some other currency.

WELL That's what the AHRABS(saudi arabia for one i believe) started doing in the 1970's and why america left the gold standard.It was a simple buy gold for $35 from the US treasury and sell on the goldmarket price of say $100 at the time.
Just not what respectable governments banks did!
