IFE have signalled that a deep water port in the spencer gulf may be viable in terms of Hercules so in possibly 4-5 years time. However in terms of Stage 1, while it would probably reduce costs, IFE can still make a reasonable profit margin using the smaller ships on the barge option.

I live on the spencer gulf and there has been speculation about deep water ports and many other such processing facilities that require water access for quite some time. There always seems to be issues regarding the place it will be built, environmental issues, land ownage issues, surrounding residential issues, the list goes on.

SA Government has failed to make much headway in this regard and I certainly wouldn't be putting my eggs in the basket that something will eventuate in the short term. IFE in this case has been on the front footy and proactive rather than reactive in finding an innovative and cheaper solution. Lets hope it pays off.
