    Whoever controlled the Dardanelles controlled the shipping routes between the Mediterranean and the Black sea. ie between Europe and Russia who was an Ally. Victory over the Ottomans would have meant Constantinople and modern day Turkey was in Allied hands. Hence security of supplies such as oil (together with the Suez canal), military, etc would have been established, and the Axis would have been largely cut-off. See map below. Bulgaria would also likely have fallen and the Axis would have been crippled
