From what I can tell, Malaysian are shit scared of being sued. They don't have the money and they don't have anything to gain. If lynas won, they owed their lawyers $$, if they won, they still owe their lawyers $$.
On the other hand, they will hate lynas's guts till the end of time. Which is the exact opposite lynas is trying to achieve. Lynas wanted to work with the local community to build a stronger presence and by suing they are going to throw all that out of the window.

Hence I said "david vs goliath" situation. SMSL might spread more propaganda, for example:
"Lynas choose malaysia because they can sue protestors"
"Lynas bypass Australian Laws to build plant in Malaysia due to strict freedrom of expression law in Australia."
Just a couple of news headlines I can think of. You really want that to happen?
