Read ausheds for a lot of high quality micro info on daily RE movements and market influences.
In very broad terms the reason I hold LYC is because Japan and the rest of the world wants and needs a large RE supplier without the sovereign risk associated with Chinese interests.
The operational improvements AL has implemented to get them through these tough times is also a big deal.
