    I will use GES as an example. When there is limited stock and obvious accumulation (on near most all sparse sell orders) there are no 'hearts' to be seen on the threads. 'After' the first wave, when 'some' have finished their accumulation - that is when you see the hearts appear ramping the threads. Just my observation over the years.
