Certainly an interesting one. Do note a lot of the images below are from a report on the resource in 2003, therefore numbers have changed with the updated resource.


The Mt Keith Nickel mine is owned by BHP, I believe it is still running although a google search showed 300 workers were laid off in 2009.



The Kambalda Nickel mine is owned by Mincor and was operating until January this year, however was shut down due to poor nickel prices. Thats straight off Mincors website. They have significantly better grade than the 0.7% nickel at the KNP.



The nickel price did rise in 2016, and is currently sitting around mid 2015 levels.


Goongarrie makes up roughly 40.33% of the contained nickel in the overall KNP.


Some positives about Goongarrie:




In 2003 the KNP was at 130mt @ 1.3% Ni showing significant progress has been made.


Heron required $30m in 2003 to complete the BFS on the KNP.


However in 2003 the Nickel price sat slightly lower than it does today.

I am personally interested why no parties came on board in the lead up to the nickel price spike which started in 2006.

Ultimately this is only coverage of the nickel. Personally I'm interested in the Cobalt. The Goongarrie resource looks to be shallow, and given its large nature will surely help lower mining costs. Would love if someone could comment on the 4:1 stripping ratio. Is that common for nickel projects?

Also have to remember this project is in a fantastic mining jurisdiction. Will be keeping a very close eye on this one.
