I don't know how long it takes to make a chip, but my imagined process is:
There could be 20 or more steps of aligning masks, applying photoresist, etching, chemical vapour deposition so if we allow an hour per step, that's 20 hours per wafer.
In my imagination, you would have 20+ stations, each performing a specific function: photoresist, etch, flush, cvd, the masks being installed in the etching stations, and batches of wafers are passed along a conveyor between stations.
Say 2000 chips per wafer, that's 20/2000 hrs per chip divided by the number of wafers per batch = 1200/(2000*X) minutes per chip, where X is the number of wafers per batch.
That's about 30/X seconds per chip using my ballpark guesstimate. So if X= 6, that's 5 seconds per chip.
