Production Meets Climbing Demand for Aluminum
Aluminum consumption in the U.S. and Canada is on the rise with preliminary estimates for the first quarter up 7.5% over the year-earlier quarter. One of the key drivers, due to the metal's light weight and durability, is the electrical sector where usage of electrical wire and cable in building applications and electrical transmission has risen 28.8% for the first four months of the year. So reports the Aluminum Association, which notes that the North American aluminum industry is growing to meet this demand with no shortages in sight.
