The event was chaired by the Sub Prefect of Sanso in the presence of Sanso Mayor, Morila representatives, village chiefs, women and youth.
Firefinch Ltd (ASX:FFX) (OTCMKTS:EEYMF) (FRA:N9F) recently celebrated International Women’s Day at the Morila Gold Mine site in Mali, West Africa, with a ceremony chaired by the Sub Prefect of Sanso in the presence of Sanso Mayor, Morila representatives, village chiefs, women and youth representatives kicking the event off.
While recognising that the world has a way to go when it comes to women being represented in the workforce, executive chairman Alistair Cowden said companies could start to shift this by encouraging and supporting young girls at school and creating pathways into the workforce.
He said: “As our site continues to grow, we have the opportunity to recruit a more diverse workforce and create employment opportunities for women either directly or indirectly.”
Cowden added that as a responsible miner, the company supported positive social and economic change through contributing to communities in which it operated through seeking to buy local, employ local and safeguard the environment as well as people’s health, safety and wellbeing.
Activities on the day included Folkloric dancing under the sounds of traditional musical instruments, a dancing party hosted by DJs and a women’s soccer match.
Plans to increase production
The Mali-focused gold miner is ramping up production at its 4.5 million tonnes per annum mill and mine throughout 2021, from a current annual production profile of 40,000 ounces per annum from tailings treatment to a target of 80,000 ounces per annum from small open pits, stocks and tailings.
In 2022, the company plans to further increase production by re-commencing mining from the main Morila pit to exploit the 1.49-million-ounce global resource at the project.
Firefinch is on track to meet production guidance this quarter while continuing to advance plans and begin mining satellite pits in mid-2021.
