Bad news from Germany on geothermalenergy:

The geothermal plant in Landau is not the only onethat constantly causes problems, and is also often completely out oforder.

The Holzkirchen geothermal plant, actually a showcaseproject for the industry, also continues to have problems and iscurrently at a standstill.

"Geothermal energy:Standstill really expensive".

"For a week now,the geothermal plant in the Alte Au has been at a standstill. Onceagain the pump is broken - the fifth breakdown in four years. Thestandstill is costing the municipal utilities dearly: they are losingabout 15,000 euros a day due to the lack of feed-intariffs."

"Losing a pump every six months is not anoption for us," says Schmid. That the innovative technology ofthis pilot project requires years of apprenticeship is clear, hesays. "But the apprenticeship years are getting a bit long,"Schmid says. "That worries us." He hopes that there willsoon be progress in the development of the technology."
