From the OP, and all through the post, I am surprised no-one has mentioned some of the theorised effects of Gingivalis P., the bacteria involved in periodontal disease.
For e.g. there are early stage theories that Gingivalis P. is potentially involved in Alzheimers disease.
This would not be the reason for the investment given the stage of the science but just pulling the narrative toward some science and clinical needs.
