As GZ said earlier he's seen people take some pretty big punts on options just before expiry.
Geez i remember over 20 years ago i was left exposed with a heap of options in an oil explorer. That had only 2 months left until expiry. The exercise price was a $1 and the physical stock was selling for $0.45. Upon a call from me desperate to get out before i lost about $25K he said who would be stupid enough to buy these things now. They are not worth anything ! Well he managed to find enough stupid people to unload the lot to.
