it's the volume at around the trading price matter. Depth could be manipulated easily, for instance, you might order a sell at $1 or buy at $5c to creat a volume but you don't intend to trade (as it is unrealistic price). Only orders around the current price are more serious, and should be considered. During a volatile session with high volume, depth can be more sensible. During a stabilised trading session, depth is not a trick.
