Hinch's comment is really just fatuous drivel. The issue from a legislative perspective is not whether owning a house is a "right" or a "dream." The issue is whether the tax treatment of prospective property buyers should favour investors or owner occupiers. The view of the Liberal Party and perhaps Derryn Hinch is that it should favour investors at the expense of prospective first time owner occupiers. The outcome of this view is in the data. First time home buyers are at their lowest point in history as a % of the market in NSW, and currently for the first time below the level of overseas investors.
