Unlike other states, WA doesn't have a problem with desalination. Actually, they couldn't do without it. According to this article, they will be building a lot more.
Apart from their water supply the other big problem they have is in deteriorating power generation. Steps are being taken by the government to bolster decentralised power generation using renewable energy.
The three sites named in the article, Kwinana, Binningup and Albany all have renewable resources (including wave energy).
It will be interesting to see how the proposed desalination plants will be powered in the coming years.
