    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is the advantage of saliva testing?

Saliva testing is looking for the parent drug the 'active' ingredient in the drug itself.

    Advantages:

Looks for parent drug - the active ingredient itself

    No privacy or gender issues
    Fast
    Inference is on impairment
    Can be used anywhere/anytime
    Cost effective

Why would I use saliva testing in preference to urine testing?

Saliva drug testing is looking for the parent drug in the system, whereas urine drug testing is looking for the metabolite of the drug.

In laymans terms this means that saliva is looking for the 'active ingredient' and urine is looking for the leftovers of the drug after it has been processed by the body.

The inference is that if you are detecting the active parent drug, then there is a distinct possibility that the subject is currently being affected by the drug and has taken it within the past few hours.

On the other hand if you are only detecting the metabolite as in the case of urine testing then you are essentially looking at past use of the drug; it is less likely that the subject is still affected by the drug, but not always. Urine will not tell you when the drug was taken, only that it was taken within the last few days or weeks depending on the drug, it's strength, the amount taken, the metabolic rate of the user, body fat - in fact numerous things can affect how long a drug is detectable in urine.

    Is saliva testing cost effective?

    Yes!

Any drug testing program has to be assessed on many criteria not just the perceived product purchase costs.

One of the biggest costs and oft-overlooked cost to any program is the human element, time! The main reasons saliva testing is cost effective are as follows:

    Anyone can do it!
You do not have to have specially trained or designated staff of both genders to be available at all times for post-incident or for-cause testing. With urine you must have someone of the same gender observe the collection.
    Save Time:
Talk to any collector and they will all be able to tell you stories of shy bladder syndrome, where the staff member simply cannot urinate on call and whilst being observed. This is a common occurrence and ties up both the collector and the staff member for a good deal of time.
    Costs have come down!
Thanks to the manufacturer of Oraline®, Sun Bio Medical, the cost of saliva testing has plummeted and is now in line with urine testing on product cost.

    Can you cheat saliva tests?

    No.

At this point in time there are no known confounders with the chemistry in Oraline®. Like all chemical tests certain chemicals will cross-react with the test and may provide positive results, but these occurrences are very low.

    5. Why do you sell the Oraline® in preference to other saliva tests?

We sell Oraline® in preference to other tests because it has the lowest cut-off level for THC (Cannabis) of any test on the market which give you a greater window of detection - 8-12 hours after use!

Combine that with the fact it is one of the fastest units on the market today and you have got a winner - accuracy and speed!

    6. What drugs can you test for?

The Oraline® tests for 4 drugs:

    THC Delta 9 (Cannabis, Marijuana)
    Opiates (Heroin, Opium)
    Methampetamine (Ice, Crystal meth, Speed)
Cocaine (Peruvian marching powder, Coke, Crack)
    Beware those making false claims.

If they are a true saliva drug test then they will be looking for THC delta 9 NOT THC delta 9 COOH - that is a urine metabolite! Yes a urine metabolite - don't ask me why they are looking for that in a saliva drug test, but the cynic might say that it sells well!

Also check the cut-off level for THC and see if it is low enough for your purposes - a hig level will give you a very short window of detection which in our opinion is not much good in a workplace.

    cheers
