I was thinking about putting up the money to send our local council over to Detroit to see how they are going to make Brisbane look in a few years’ time. I wonder if they will accept one way tickets though!

Hi Andy,
You won't have to worry about BNE turning into Detroit, the chinese wallahs are redoubling their efforts to invest in Australian property. China's becoming a real can of worms and the dictator is up to his ears in scandal with his daughter owning foreign trusts related to Mossack Fonseca.
Sensible chinese are getting out, they're throwing some major bucks around my area having just bought one of the local vineyards. There's a notable vineyard very close to me that's up for sale, I'd be very surprised if the new owners aren't chinese, they want their money out of the middle kingdom.
They want property (in civilised countries), not gold.
