I think all our utility, insurance and education bills are a direct result of years and years of a booming economy with very poor foresight and investment. We are victims of a nation that has become lazy and greedy at the same time. Council rates - just pull a number out of your backside, slap it on the bill and hope the buggers don't question it. And that is where we go wrong: we fail to address our concerns collectively which may net real-results.

Just this week I heard more and more Victorians are unable (I believe refusing) to pay their rate fees. Something like 6000 in the Mornington Peninsula alone! I think letting that news out of the bag was a mistake, as it could cause whole communities to do the same. What are they going to do, fine everyone?

Back to the power costs, why do we have the highest electricity costs when we have the cheapest supply of coal?
