I think AI targeting the end point recycling sorting centres lines that are now mostly scanned & sorted by humans may be more beneficial. The AI target selection & differentiation side can be easily & economically implemented, it's the robotics that are then required to pick & sort the items where the majority of implementation cost will be.

Two robotic pick/sort arms on a conveyor line maybe will cost >$1m to install & commission. If the recycling line runs 24/7 this would replace the existing costs of at least 10 humans per line so ROI will be rapid. Further savings are also had with much reduced administration & safety overheads.
