A critical characteristic for high performance material used in the solid-state, electronic optical switch being developed by the Company is low absorption of light by the magneto-optic nano film to achieve the highest light transmission through the projector. PSY scientists have been working on optimizing cerium based garnets, with a view to minimizing the absorption. The next step will be to crystallize the material in order to achieve Faraday rotation (meaning the ability to turn on and off) and remanence (ability to remember the state the pixel was left in). Both high Faraday polarization rotation and low optical absorption per unit length are vital for achieving a high figure of merit for switch performance.
Panorama Synergy CEO, Terry Walsh said the process for perfecting blue follows the same process that achieved the desired outstanding characteristics in red and green.
"PSY is leading the world in using magneto-optic crystals to process light in the visible spectrum, that is to finely control red, green and blue light. We are delighted with the strong progress we are making in the blue spectrum and, following a series of expert’s reports in recent months, are confident that the technology is reaching its full potential" he said.
