yes you are right the CNOOC deal was a big pay day for them, the rest of your post about CHK is news to me. Certainly not doubting what you have said but from the point of view that when CHK first ann I think 16 months ago they were leaving a good % of their gas plays and moving to liquids for greater returns, and now they are out.
I agree that getting in early pays big dividends as appreciation of the acres price can give coy's in need of cash big quick pay days.
Haven't followed CHK at all really, thats why I was gobsmacked when they ann the sale.I wonder what they would have decided if the Defender and SOA numbers had come out before the exit decision ??
