I as wondering the effect of tailings on rivers. I did some reasearch and found a case in the USA. The Inez coal tailings dam failure (Kentucky, USA) made it into the water ways. You can read the rest.
I know the link says unranium but its actually about coal.

Bhp dont have a good track record, remember the Ok Tedi environmental disaster.
The point is where are they going to put all this toxic water.
