The problem with Scandium for major aircraft (and other) manufacturers has been a lack of consistent supply and accompanying fluctuations in pricing, but generally price has been over US$2000/kg. CLQ have stated that they plan to sell their Sc for considerably less than this. When CLQ and other miners begin to produce consistent quantities of Sc the market will of course find a fair value.
Now that manufacturers know that consistent supply will be definitely coming (CLQ is not the only miner with plans to produce Sc) they can invest in thoroughly researching Scandium (which is already happening i.e. Airbus/AB Phillips who have a relationship with CLQ), and planning to adopt Sc in their production.
The big thing for manufacturers who want to alloy scandium with aluminium is that they will have to completely retool existing facilities (expensive). However the advantages of alloying scandium with aluminium are too great to ignore, there are benefits in manufacturing costs, durability, strength, corrosion resistance, weldability, light weighting, not to mention safer aircraft. Then there are the light weighting advantages in the automotive industry, particularly EV's which will travel further.
As some here know this story has been in train for several years now and we are getting closer to hearing some news on the scandium front with every passing week.
