Just a short post to get feed back from HCerers, about my son's '99 Toyota Coaster, that I booked in yesterday for repair, if possible for his speedo not working and his fuel gauge not working, at an Auto Electrician in Wodonga Vic.
They knew he needed his vehicle to go to Byron Bay today, but after spending time removing the dash, etc, tracing wiring or whatever, they did not have a new speedo sender unit, which was the problem, and could not access the fuel sender unit as built over, (I will fix when vehicle comes back home), so put all back together, and charged me $297, 3 hours labour, ... but not fixing anything, except diagnosis.
Plus the speedo sender unit they could supply was going to cost $543 plus freight and fitting.
If they had told me of the potential diagnosis labour charges before hand, I would have walked away, but to have to pay out $297 for no result is frustrating and a waste of money for nothing.
I had to pay to be able to get the vehicle back, so later I contacted Vic Consumer Affairs, etc for some advice.
Doesn't look like I have a leg to stand on or any chance of getting my money back.
