Not exactly fake diamonds as they are chemically identical.
Currently most of Lucapas production falls into the range that can be man made for a fraction of the cost (the 5ct stone pictured would have come from a +10ct rough, there is evidence that smaller diamonds pricing has already been impacted. DeBeers got into manufacturing these diamonds as they see the risk that new generations of diamond buyers may not care where the stone is from or more concerned, worried about environmental issues or ethical diamond issues. It will all come down to a marketing war to see if these stones are just niche or something more.
