ASX/MEDIA Release 29 March 2007
STRONG MARCH QUARTER DIAMOND SALES
• Total sales of 158,600 carats at US$127/carat for March Quarter,
realising revenue of A$26.4 million.
• Year-to-date sales of 253,200 carats at US$139/carat, generating revenue of A$46.2 million.
• Strong value result from all four direct sales and two tenders in March Quarter, highlighting positive upward trend in global diamond market.
Kimberley Diamond Company NL (ASX: KIM, AIM: KDC – Kimberley) is pleased to
advise that it has now completed four direct diamond sales and two tenders for the March 2007 Quarter, realising total sales revenue for the Quarter of US$20.2 million (A$26.4 million) – exceeding its target for the period of A$25 million.
A total of 158,600 carats were sold for the quarter at an average realised price of
US$127/carat (A$166/carat), with recent sales achieving prices significantly above
Kimberley’s book price as previously announced. With the inclusion of the March Quarter results, sales for the financial year-to-date have increased to 253,200 carats for total revenue of US$35.2 million (A$46.2 million) at an average realised diamond price of US$139/carat (A$182/carat). March Quarter sales included a product mix
abnormally weighted towards the lower value Ellendale 4 diamonds due to the East Plant upgrade shutdown and extended commissioning late 2006 and early 2007.
The strong March Quarter sales performance highlights the benefits of the Company’s deferred sales and marketing strategy, which was designed to take advantage of firmer New Year conditions in the global diamond market.
Kimberley’s Executive Chairman, Miles Kennedy, said the excellent value result
achieved from sales since the beginning of the year reflected a very positive upward trend in the global diamond market, with the most recent tender sale in Antwerp achieving prices equal to the all-time record prices achieved by the Company in 2005.
“We are very pleased with what has been an excellent quarterly sales performance,
which has enabled us to exceed our revenue target for the Quarter,” Mr Kennedy said.
“With the completion of our expansion projects at Ellendale nearing completion and strongly growing production profile, Kimberley is exceptionally well positioned to take advantage of the improving conditions in the world diamond market.”
