But if it's a super resistant high performance paint, car maker competitors might want to know what the special additive is which makes it so great and gives it such high performance you save massively on fuel and gets you to the destination much more quickly.

So unless there is an exclusive deal of confidentiality between the paint maker and the super additive supplier, they will be able find out.

In the case of POC1, the black-out period under a confidentiality agreement won't last forever. They are getting a competitive advantage by keeping the identity secret, so that they sell plenty of cars with that high performance paint and try to dominate the market early if they are already a household name.
