I think JB focus on the casual, impulse buyers. They still sell a lot of CDs, DVDs and games which probably helps to sell the higher value stuff like speakers, consoles, car audio, Gopros, etc.
Dick Smith are probably ok if you're shopping around for a tv or computer but that's not every payday. Walk into a JB on a Thursday shopping night or rainy Saturday and you'll see what I mean.
