The company was asking people for more money. The company needs this money to continue; Without it, it would be in very difficult times, despite the recent success at Surprise.
When Directors don't buy in, and they can (which has been confirmed), then it makes it seem like they lack faith in the company.
It is very bad form.
Also the directors already have one strike against them from the last AGM, they can be rolled at this year's AGM. I'd be surprised and disappointed if they didn't take this opportunity to improve Shareholders' impressions of them.
