After Jesus death there was a period of grief and mourning when the disciples must have thought that the Teachings of Christ were finished, but after three days of feeling lost and deeply saddened the disciples began to teach again as they had been taught by Jesus and this was His resurrection. This was His victory over death. This was Him rising from death and His victory over death. If Jesus had risen from physical death back to physical life He would have had to sneak off somewhere and die all over again so His spirit could ascend to heaven, because a physical bodies are not fit for heaven. The same reality existed in the time of Jesus as today, the truly dead stay dead.

indeed. There is no agony in the state of being dead. But there can be pain in death throes, as a person is about to die. And Christ was put to death in a very painful way.
